History of Central BID

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a defined area within which local businesses work together to invest collectively in additional projects and services, prioritised by businesses, to address problems and opportunities that affect their business, staff and clients.

The BID does not replace existing Council services, and baselines are in place to ensure there is no crossover.

Central BID Birmingham (formerly Retail BID) is the BID for Birmingham city centre’s retail and leisure area, including Bullring and Grand Central, Mailbox, New Street, High Street and Great Western Arcade and has been working for its members since 2007.

The BID successfully completes its five-year terms by launching promotional campaigns, cleaning programmes, patrol operations and strategic projects to enhance the retail core as a premier shopping destination.

Central BID is a full member of the industry body British BIDS which focuses on establishing and maintaining quality services and standards for the Business Improvement District industry. More information about British BIDs is available here.

To understand and consider the views and ideas of Central BID members for the proposed new terms, the team consults with businesses to establish the key priorities for businesses which inform the development of the BID business plan for the next five years.
