Nationwide in Birmingham offers free dementia service

Nationwide building society in Birmingham city centre’s High Street is offering free advice by a specialist dementia nurse at its branch.

The far-reaching dementia support isn’t just for its customers either, but the wider public.

As part of its Fairer Futures programme, Nationwide has partnered with Dementia UK to give free, tailored advice to support people affected by the condition and their families.

Charity Dementia UK said that dementia is an umbrella term that spans various progressive disorders affecting the brain. That includes Alzheimer’s disease.

They describe dementia as “one of the biggest health challenges of our time” adding that every three minutes, someone in the UK develops dementia.

“Families affected are often left feeling exhausted and overwhelmed and don’t know where to turn,” said Dementia UK.
