Businesses and the public have only days left to submit feedback in a consultation on plans to turn Birmingham’s former Marks & Spencer store into a 52-storey landmark development.
Owner Bluecastle Capital wants to transform the building at 42 High Street into a mixed-use development including new housing. The developer is set to submit a planning application to Birmingham City Council next year.
The consultation closes on Monday December 22 with views submitted to be summarised in the planning application.

The development will provide approximately 700 build-to-rent homes, together with new landscaping and tree planting in and around the building,” said a Bluecastle Capital spokesperson.
“The site is part of Birmingham’s City Centre Growth Area and offers a unique opportunity to develop a landmark building, representing a new front door to the city.”
The wider plans for the city centre are shown in the map above with 42 High Street highlighted in bold pink.

In the shorter term, the former M&S building is partly back in use after Well Home store opened in the ground floor this week. Shoppers have been keen to visit to see the range of homeware products it sells.
For more information about the development and how to submit your feedback by Monday December 22 at the latest, see the Bluecastle Capital website on 42 High Street here.
