Birmingham Holocaust Memorial Day event

A candle-lighting ceremony with poetry, music and survivor testimonies will mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2026 in Birmingham at the Council House on Monday January 26.

The annual commemoration in the city centre, led by Birmingham’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Zafar Iqbal, is free and open to all at 11am.

This year, the event will include survivor testimony from Mindu Hornick, Nyathesis Kwawang and Rebecca Kwawang, talking about generational experiences of genocide survivors and their families.

Lord Mayor, Coun Iqbal, said: “Holocaust Memorial Day is an opportunity for us to come together, reflect on the past, and apply its lessons in fostering a more inclusive future.”
