Metro Bank in Birmingham city centre is the last remaining to offer traditional safety deposit boxes for valuables. We take a closer look inside.
Like a scene from a heist movie, rows of secure metallic lockers line the vault deep within Metro Bank. It’s how you imagine every bank to be but in central Birmingham, this is the final one to offer this essential service for many.
There are 5,000 fireproof boxes in the vault at the huge Metro Bank at the corner of High Street and New Street.
Customers can pay monthly or annually for a box for their valuable documents, jewellery and irreplaceable mementos. They can visit it as many times as they want and add relatives or other visitor names to the list of people able to access the box.
Private rooms allow them to access their belongings on their own or in a group.
Kulvinder Dhanda, Manager of Metro Bank’s Birmingham and Solihull stores, said: “Metro Bank is the only bank in Birmingham city centre currently offering safety deposit boxes.
“Demand for safety deposit boxes has remained strong, particularly as the value of gold and other precious items has increased.
“Many customers prefer the added security of storing valuable jewellery, important documents and treasured possessions in a secure bank facility, especially when travelling or spending extended periods away from home.
“Our safety deposit boxes provide customers with peace of mind, knowing their most valuable items are protected in a highly secure environment.
We offer a range of box sizes to suit different needs, with prices starting from just £21.50 per month.”
As part of a special promotion, Metro Bank is offering new safety deposit box customers a 50% discount on rental fees for the first 12 months. The offer is subject to availability and terms and conditions and may be withdrawn or changed at short notice.
