Japanese KODO tuna carving ceremony at Yakinori Birmingham

Birmingham’s Yakinori restaurant is holding a rare Japanese KODO tuna carving ceremony. Here’s everything you need to know and how to get tickets.

The eatery in New Street will host the immersive standing dining experience on Friday July 17 at 6.30pm until late. It is inspired by the energy, craftsmanship, and theatre of Japan’s iconic tuna markets.

KODO: The Art Of Bluefin Tuna Ceremony Carving at Yakinori is set to be an unforgettable evening with expert chefs carving and breaking down an entire premium Bluefin Tuna live.

The food and drink event- showcasing precision knife skills, traditional techniques, and the artistry behind every cut – will feature a live DJ set, dramatic carving moments, dry ice theatre, premium cocktails, and an atmosphere that blends Tokyo nightlife energy with luxury Japanese food culture.

“From delicate akami to rich otoro, guests will enjoy freshly prepared tuna dishes moments after carving, paired with unlimited sake and an electric atmosphere designed to bring people together,” said a Yakinori spokesperson.

“More than dinner, KODO is a celebration of Japanese food culture – vibrant, social, theatrical, and unforgettable.”

Diners need to be aware that this event is not a traditional sit-down dinner as KODO is designed to be vibrant, social, and interactive.

Guests will mingle with cocktails, sake, and wine in hand while enjoying a continuous flow of freshly prepared tuna dishes served throughout the evening.

Food will include everything from buttery otoro to delicate chutoro sashimi, Bluefin tartare, tuna tacos, tataki, negitoro hand rolls, flame-seared nigiri, and rich tuna cheeks.

Every dish is crafted moments after carving to highlight the unique texture and flavour of each premium cut.

The special evening costs £75 with unlimited sake or £125 for the unlimited cocktail, wine and sake package. Find out more at the Yakinori website here.
