Public urged to give views on Birmingham’s ‘The Ramp’ landmark

Birmingham City Council has launched a public survey asking for views on the city’s famous ‘Ramp’ leading into Grand Central.

The landmark at Stephenson Place, off New Street, is one of the city centre’s iconic meeting spots and the council wants to hear views on what people think about its cleanliness, lighting, safety and appearance.

Questions in the short survey are aimed at helping council leaders decide what improvements could be made to the area.

A Birmingham City Council spokesperson said: “Have your say on The Ramp! We want to hear from you. What’s your experience of Stephenson Place, known as The Ramp?

“Share your thoughts in our quick, anonymous two‑minute survey and help shape future improvements.

“Every voice helps us improve this busy gateway into the city centre.”

It’s not clear how long the survey will be open for, so members of the public are urged to respond as soon as possible.

The Ramp is locally one of the most recognisable places for city centre shoppers, leading into Birmingham New Street Station and shops at Grand Central. McDonald’s and HSBC UK bank are among the businesses that drive numbers to the ramp.

As a beloved landmark, it even features in artwork at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery by Stacey Barnfield.
