Birmingham Light Festival launches in spectacular style

The annual illuminated extravaganza Birmingham Light Festival, launched on February 12, running over four consecutive nights . The unique partnership event across the city centre, includes financial contributions from all five city centre BIDs.

It kicked off in spectacular style with a performance of ‘Forged’ at Bullring, paying homage to the city’s very own Black Sabbath.

Accompanied by a huge fire-breathing bat and outdoor organ, the performance proved to be very popular with the hundreds of people gathered, and even the downpour of rain didn’t dampen their spirits.

The Central BID-funded installation ‘My Heart Belongs in Birmingham’ illuminated the night sky in Lower Temple Street. Beautiful neon hearts adorned one of the prominent trees in the street close to New Street Station – the perfect backdrop for Valentine’s weekend.

Continuing the theme of love, giant eyes on Birmingham Town Hall peeped out for ‘The Look of Love’ installation. It watched over from the historic columns as the silent illuminated disco took place on Victoria Square.

There are many other beautiful illuminations and attractions for Birmingham Light Festival across the city centre, including in Birmingham Colmore, Jewellery Quarter, Westside and Southside along with Edgbaston Village and the Botanical Gardens.

Support for the Birmingham Light Festival is an important and strategic investment by the BID to be part of such a fabulous event that attracts many thousands of visitors to the city centre over Valentine’s weekend.
