Central BID working closer with British Transport Police in Birmingham

Central BID’s Business Crime Reduction Partnership(BCRP) team is now working even closer with British Transport Police(BTP) to tackle crime in the city centre.

Brendon Stewart from BTP, pictured below, has been seconded to Central BID’s office within the BCRP team to create a more coordinated approach on retail theft and other issues.

It will allow the team to share insights and build up stronger cases against prolific offenders.

Brendon, who has worked with BTP for six years and previously worked for BIDs including Lichfield and Westside, said: “BTP investigates crimes on trains, trams and at shops in stations.

“Linking up is part of a long-term plan to share information and tackle repeat offenders, especially as I’ll now be able to use the DISC reporting system.

“Criminals don’t have borders. We may come across offenders on our transport network who have travelled into Birmingham to steal and are wanted by West Midlands Police; but as that force uses a different system to us, we wouldn’t have been aware of it in the past.

“For businesses, this should hopefully lead to better prosecutions in court and more Criminal Behaviour Orders. We’re all working together on the same goal.”

BID members will get a chance to meet and hear more from Brendon at Central BID’s monthly Retailer Meetings.
