Birmingham’s The Alexandra’s theatre has unveiled its Autumn/Winter season featuring top comedians, sparkling musicals and chilling plays.
The new programme up to April next year includes appearances by legendary Queen drummer Roger Taylor on September 24 and Britain’s best comedians from Lenny Henry on October 19 to Russell Howard from October 22 to 25 and Maisie Adam on February 26.
There’s murder mysteries and thrillers galore from Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap and The Hollow to The Silence of the Lambs and Paranormal Activity, straight from the West End. There’s no end of musicals too at The Alexandra with Jersey Boys, Mean Girls, Dirty Dancing, Burlesque and even Trainspotting The Musical set to draw in crowds.
Drawing the summer to a close at the end of August is High Society starring Call The Midwife’s Helen George. It’s set to bring champagne sparkle, romance and glamour to The Alexandra in the big song and dance musical with a 28-strong cast.
Theatre-goers can try their hand at solving a great British murder mystery in September, when the record-breaking 75th anniversary tour of The Mousetrap opens in Birmingham, fresh from celebrating its 30,000th West End performance and a Guinness World Record for the longest theatrical run.
As the temperature starts to cool in October, Burlesque the Musical will be bringing the heat to the second city. Starring Faye Brookes as Tess Richarde, this sizzling production is based on the hit film starring Christina Aguilera and Cher.
Then from sparkles to spooks, Paranormal Activity is set to petrify audiences over Halloween at Birmingham’s most haunted theatre. Inspired by the iconic film series, this production follows the story of James and Lou as they move from Chicago to London and discover that places aren’t haunted, but people are.
The boys are back in November, and you can discover the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons when Jersey Boys makes a return to The Alex. Expect all their greatest hits including Sherry, Walk Like A Man and December 1963 (Oh What a Night).
Take a trip back to the 1990’s as Trainspotting The Musical makes its Birmingham premiere. A staggering 30 years on from the iconic film, Renton, Sick Boy, Begbie, Spud, Tommy, and Kelly are back in a musical version.
For Christmas, The Alexandra continues with its big budget musicals, bringing Mean Girls for three weeks in December 2026. Expect pink fashion, larger than life characters, razor-sharp wit, and killer songs.
Looking further ahead to January, the infamous murderer Hannibal Lecter will be brought to life on stage by EastEnders’ actor John Partridge in The Silence of the Lambs. Delving into the psychological tension of Thomas Harris’ landmark novel, this production promises an evening of chills and suspense.
Hercule Poirot, the ever-meticulous Belgian sleuth, then arrives to keep you on the edge of your seat in Agatha Christie’s The Hollow. Following the success of Murder On The Orient Express and Death On The Nile, this is a darkly seductive new staging of one of Agatha Christie’s most compelling mysteries.
Keep the January blues at bay and have The Time Of Your Life when Dirty Dancing returns to The Alex telling the iconic story of Baby and Johnny. Then into February, The Cornley Amateur Drama Society will be bringing laughs aplenty to Birmingham in a new production of Christmas Carol Goes Wrong.
There’s also an assortment of one-night only shows on offer at The Alexandra including an evening with legendary Queen drummer, songwriter and vocalist Roger Taylor, an improvisation of a hilarious new Jane Austen novel in Austentatious, and an electrifying new live show from Strictly Come Dancing champion Giovanni Pernice.
