Countdown to Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships – all you need to know

Birmingham will be the first ever UK city to host the European Athletics Championships in one year’s time with seven days of thrilling world-class sporting action.


The best of the UK and Europe’s athletes look set to compete at Birmingham Alexander Stadium from August 10 to 16, 2026 and bring back some of the spirit the city felt during the Commonwealth Games.

Priority access tickets went on sale this week but more tickets will be on general release tp the public next month at 10am on Wednesday September 10.

Track and field events from the women and men’s 100m sprints to 5000m, pole vault and discus are set to draw in worldwide crowds to Birmingham city centre as they head to Alexander Stadium in Perry Barr.

Headline stars expected to be taking part include Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen along with British talent from 100m runner Zharnel Hughes to 5000m athlete Josh Kerr, 800m medalist Georgia Hunter Bell and high jumper Morgan Lake.

Tickets start from £5 for under-16s and £10 adults and half of all tickets are priced at £30 or under to keep it affordable.
