Flat Iron is opening its first restaurant in Birmingham city centre and here’s everything you need to know.
The restaurant, famous for its steaks and flavoursome beef without breaking the bank, will officially open in Temple Street on Saturday October 10 after several days of soft launches, when guests get 50% off all food.
Spanning two floors, Flat Iron Birmingham will fit 60 people at ground level and a further 50 on the first floor. It also prides itself on its quick turnaround, for those with time against them during a lunch break.
Expect a decor with an industrial feel of steel and exposed brickwork alongside vintage lighting and reclaimed furniture.
The back bar is built from reclaimed industrial shelving originally designed for libraries.

Flat Iron food and drink
The menu is led by its signature ‘Flat Iron’ steak, taken from the featherblade. Although often overlooked by chefs, this piece of meat is known for its flavour, tenderness and juiciness when seam butchered with skill and care.
There will be a rotating board of specials, including a Wagyu Steak of the Day and a Smashed Onion Double Cheeseburger made using beef from the Flat Iron herd in Yorkshire.
Customers get beef-dripping popcorn when the arrive as they peruse the menu. Aimed at being budget-friendly, diners can get a meal for under £20 and a steak for £15.
Sides include Flat Iron’s beef dripping chips, creamed spinach, truffled macaroni cheese and crispy bone marrow garlic mash.
As you leave, diners can exchange a food hammer for an ice-cream, or save it to exchange next time they are in the city centre.

When it comes to drinks, the restaurant will have draft beers, house fizzes, signature cocktails and curated selection of wines. It includes Flat Iron’s own Malbec, specially blended by the Flat Iron team using grapes grown in the Limoux area of the Languedoc in southern France.
Flat Iron expansion
The first Flat Iron was opened by founder Charlie Carroll in 2012 as a pop-up above a pub in East London with a mission to make great steak available for everyone.
Working closely with British farmer Charles Ashbridge, Flat Iron has created its own herd of cattle in Thirsk, Yorkshire, where Waygu is reared for its menu.
This will be the first Flat Iron in Birmingham city centre, to add to the company’s 16 restaurants in London along with venues in Cambridge, Leeds, Manchester, Brighton, Bristol and Newcastle.
Flat Iron Birmingham will be at 40-42 Temple Street, Birmingham city centre, B2 5DP. Book a table at the restaurant here.
