The Post Office has opened in TG Jones in Union Street ahead of the Birmingham city centre branch in Pinfold Street, near Victoria Square, closing its doors.
Renovation work has seen the rear of former WH Smith’s converted into three counters, three self-serve areas and post boxes to deal with everything from Royal Mail postage and parcels to passport forms and currency.
Nicki Willoughby, manager of Birmingham city centre’s TG Jones store, said: “With the city centre Post Office closing, TG Jones has taken on the service, employing staff to run the operation and we’re very much looking forward to it.”
These photos show a first look inside the new Post Office serving Birmingham city centre, which is located at the heart of the business and shopping areas within Central BID. It is close to Martineau Place, Corporation Street and High Street.
The new Post Office in TG Jones officially opened on November 6, a few weeks’ ahead of the Pinfold Street venue’s closure.
The Post Office announced last year that it was looking to close 115 directly-owned branches within its 11,500 network. Work has been ongoing for affected branches to be transferred to retail partners, like TG Jones, or postmasters, so a service could continue in affected areas.
