The Specials star launches pop art exhibition at Forward Gallery

The Specials guitarist turned Pop Artist Horace Panter is appearing at Birmingham’s Forward Gallery this weekend. The gallery is displaying and selling his pop art as part of a Further On Up The Road exhibition.

The event ties in with the 250th Anniversary of American Independence on Saturday July 4 as his works have an Americana theme.

The famous guitarist and key figure of the 2 Tone movement will be in Forward Gallery in Cannon Street on July 4 from midday until 3pm.

He will celebrate the official opening of his exhibition and meet collectors and visitors.

Stephen Graham “Horace” Panter co-founded The Specials, who had hits including Ghost Town. He balances his life as a musician with also being a professional pop artist, influenced by greats like Andy Warhol and David Hockney.

“We are delighted to present Further On Up the Road, a major new collection of paintings by Horace Panter,” said Forward Gallery Director Tim Ison.

“Inspired by the landscapes, roadside culture and atmosphere of America, this latest body of work is one of Horace’s strongest and most atmospheric collections to date.

“Combining his unmistakable style with striking colour and cinematic composition, the exhibition captures a powerful sense of travel, nostalgia and modern Americana.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to view the full collection, discuss the works with Horace personally and enjoy an exclusive first look at the originals and limited editions.”
