Renowned as one of Birmingham city centre’s finest independent cafes, Faculty in Piccadilly Arcade is a popular stop-off for coffee and now it offers even more. We take a first look inside.
Expanding into a neighbouring property, Faculty now offers great views of Stephenson Street and New Street Station to watch the world go by with a simmering cup of quality coffee.
You can even add a glass of wine and brunch to that too as the coffee shop now has an alcoholic licence and a larger menu offering club, bacon and sausage sandwiches along with its famous grilled sandwiches and home-made cakes.
Faculty coffee shop is a homegrown success story for husband and wife owners Geoff and Lucy Lam, who opened the cafe in 2014 focusing on quality coffee.
They have increased capacity to 25 with extra tables and a workshop upstairs, which will in time hold tasting sessions.
The new downstairs area catches the eye with huge windows overlooking the bustling day to day activities in Stephenson Street.
Geoff said the kitchen expansion had led to a larger food menu, which was full of traditional and nostalgic favourites, along with vegan options.
Brunch dishes range from sausagage, bacon and other breakfast sandwiches that are available from Tuesday to Saturday. Grilled sandwiches are served from Sunday to Wednesday. There’s also sides like potato tots on offer.
Geoff added that they were excited to be granted a licence to serve alcohol so that diners could sit with a glass or bottle of wine at Faculty on a leisurely trip in Birmingham city centre.
“We’ve kept the menu full of classic and nostalgic favourites while the decor is simple and stylish,” explained Geoff.
